5 Francis Blomefield An essay towards a topographical history of the County of Norfolk, containing a description of the Towns, Villages, and Hamlet, with the foundations of Monasteries, Churches, Chapels, Chanteries and other religious buildings ... in Five Volumes
Fersfield Francis Blomefield 1739 1st Edition Hardcover Fine Book
A fine large paper set of the 1st edition with the first 2 volumes completed by Blomefield himself and with the final 3 volumes by Parkin after Blomefield's death. Half calf in compartments with title, volume No., date and Hundreds listed in gilt to spine. Grey paper boards, plain endpapers with engraved bookplate of Lord Loraine. Volume 4 rebacked with original spine laid down otherwise as bound with a little relatively minor scuffing to joints which are sound. In all a fine large paper set (the tallest we have handled) with the advantage of the 1749 Bowen fine map of Norfolk not called for. All plates collate except Bishops Hall Monument not bound in but with several additional plates. The Bishop Hall plate is often missing and presumably was issued after many sets had been sold. Some of the unusually clean plates have been bound in slightly different order. Volume 1 has a duplicated plate of Monument of Thomas Richardson. The Bowen map in Volume 3 is coloured and has a number of repaired splits. Volume 3 also contains additional plates of a memorial and East Barsham Manor. Volume 4 has additonal plate of Lynn Haven & River Ouse. Volume 5 has additional plate of Sheilds in Priory Church, Horsham St Faiths. 37cm x 25cm.
